Britt Peters provided structural engineering services for the renovation of the two existing floors in 75 Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan. The upfit included the addition of a new elevator shaft as well as the addition of two escalators between floors. The escalator was hung entirely from the existing floor structure and required a new 37 foot long opening in the existing slab - which was bracing the top of a nearly 29 foot tall existing basement retaining wall. In order to accomodate the opening, the BPA team designed external reinforcing for the wall utilizing steel plates with epoxy anchors into the wall - all of which created a large concrete beam to span the opening.
BPA also provided daily on site observation for nearly two months during construction in order to address field issues and questions to assist the project team in completing the project prior to the holiday season Grand Opening.
Our specialty is our diversity - concrete, steel, masonry, mass timber, aluminum, bamboo...whatever is the best solution for the project is the solution we help you find and use.
